A new study by the research team from the American University in Georgia has led to the provision of new knowledge about energy sources from carbohydrates.
Until now, (especially in diabetics) due to slow absorption and limited storage in relation to glucose, fructose has received a negative connotation.
Fructose is a simple sugar that is stored only in the liver in the form of glycogen and provides energy reserves for the body.
In addition to being present in trees, today we find more and more sources of fructose – corn syrup, white sugar, maple syrup, tree juices, sweetened cereals, as well as some dairy products.
Studies have shown that with the consumption of food rich in fructose, concentration, orientation in space and memory weaken, writes in the journal “Neurobiology of Learning and Memory”.
Since fructose is mainly metabolized in the liver, it increases the level of triglycerides, and thus the insulin balance changes, as a result of which the brain’s ability to adapt to new stimuli decreases.
