The unnamed patient was wounded at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy, located 24 miles north of Detroit, at around 7 a.m. ET on Thursday. It remains unclear whether the patient was specifically targeted or caught in a random attack, and no further details about their condition have been made public.
The shooter is still at large, and a heavy police presence is at the hospital as law enforcement works to locate the suspect.
Barbara, a nurse at the hospital, informed WXYZ that the gunfire reportedly started in the radiology department. A shelter-in-place order has been issued for the hospital, and medical staff are reportedly taking refuge in the supply room, according to 7News Detroit.
