Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Alina Habba, announced the initiation of a federal investigation into Democratic Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Matthew Platkin for allegedly obstructing federal
immigration enforcement efforts in the state. The investigation stems from claims that both officials directed state police to disregard federal immigration arrest warrants and to avoid assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Habba, who was appointed as acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey on March 24 after serving as President Donald Trump’s personal attorney and White House counselor, disclosed the investigation during an appearance on
Fox News’ Hannity. In her statement, Habba accused the two Democratic officials of directing state police not to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, which she argued was a violation of federal law. Read more below
