Bobby Rydell, a beloved teenage heartthrob vocalist from the 1950s and 1960s, has regrettably left us at the age of 79.Variety has reported that he succumbed to complications arising from pneumonia. His legacy will endure, characterized not only by his chart-toppers such as “Volare” and “Wild One” but also by a multitude of other achievements in his life.

He released multiple albums and pursued a successful acting career alongside his music. Born as Robert Louis Ridarelli in Philadelphia in 1942, he first gained significant recognition as a child after winning a talent competition in 1950.

The contest was organized by Paul Whiteman, who also managed the TV Teen Club, and he extended an invitation to Bobby to perform on the show for several years.

During this time, he opted to embrace the moniker Bobby Rydell. However, it wasn’t until his 1959 single, “Kissin’ Time,” reached the 83rd position on the pop charts that he gained real traction with his original songs. Read more below
